2022 American Olympic Ice-Skating Team Upgrades to Gold Medals as Russia’s Medals Downgraded
The Americans finally got their gold medals from the 2022 Beijing Olympics - in Paris
As the 2024 Paris Olympics started, the 2022 US Olympic ice-skating team finally received the gold medals they won at the Beijing Olympics. Instead of receiving the medals in the middle of winter in Beijing, the athletes had a ceremony at Champions Park during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
During the Beijing Olympics, the Russians won gold in the ice skating team competition. The Americans took silver, and the Japanese took bronze.
During the 2022 Olympics, no medal ceremony was held for the team competition because a doping investigation was underway. A final determination took 2.5 years to make.
The medals were redistributed because the Russian team included a skater, teenager Kamila Valieva, who was disqualified for doping by using a banned heart medication.
The nine members of the American team — Evan Bates, Nathan Chen, Madison Chock, Zachary Donohue, Brandon Frazier, Madison Hubbell, Alexa Knierim, and Vincent Zhou — celebrated their victory while listening to The Star-Spangled Banner.
