Living His Best Life
Don’t Argue With Your Cat
He does not care about you or your feelings
“A cat will do what it wants when it wants, and there’s not a thing you can do about it.” — Frank Perkins
My spouse walks into the bedroom and stares at me. I am standing next to the cat tree, talking to my cat. I have my face right next to the cat’s face. The cat stands up, stretches, turns his back to me, and lays back down. Dark is not paying attention to me. I keep talking.
Conversation With My Cat
“Listen,” I say. “You are nine years old, way too old to take my shoes.” I had an ongoing battle with the cat for my flip-flops for the last three weeks.
“You are not a kitten. Act your age. You should not be sniffing shoes and hiding them for later.”
In a minute, I hear deep cat breathing. I lean over to see what is up. The cat has gone to sleep in the middle of my lecture. I sigh and walk away.
We have a shoe rack by the front door for people to take off their shoes when they enter our home. I keep my flip-flops there all the time in case I need to step outside. Usually, there are two pairs, one for around the house and another nicer pair if I run errands.
