The Wedding Is Off
One of my nieces just called off a wedding. Her wedding was planned for over a year. The parents think the wedding is still on. The niece says the wedding is off. We traveled to the city without knowing if the wedding was on or off to see the niece. She is a favorite and since we already had plane tickets canceling them or exchanging them would cost us $200 each.
What caused this break-up? My niece already lives with her fiancé. They have been dating for five years, living together for two years. He proposed after they lived together for six months, but since they were paying for their wedding, it took some time to get their finances right.
They asked for and got advance wedding gifts for wedding planning and support services. Smart and practical. My spouse and I were in on the flowers, which would be our wedding gift. We would also give them an actual wedding present — as was most of our family.
