August was a vicious month. September continues the trend.

I consider myself a blessed woman. Right now, I could be some drug-addicted whorish woman with 50 children living in government housing. But I am not. I escaped that destiny. There were times when I could have been thrown permanently off course.

Fate, skill, and very kind people who took a genuine interest in me significantly affected my path. I am certain that I have used much more than my fair share of luck.

I reached middle age in sound, but not great, health. I eat healthily. I walk. I have social connections. I am technically savvy enough not to get scammed (not yet, but almost).

But all that serendipity means that there are periods when the things that are out of my control go out of control.

August was one of those months.

An immediate family member got into trouble that could not be ignored. He was swept up in a protest movement and put in jail.

My spouse worked multiple triple heat days in our pool container garden, got a medication change from his…
