No Touch Laws In 31 States Make It Illegal to Touch Your Phone While Driving
Using your phone or any other mobile device could get you a $50 to $450 fine, depending on the state
No-touch laws are not new. Thirty states already had them when Pennsylvania joined them today, June 05, 2025. The laws make it illegal to touch your phone or to even drive with it on your lap.
My friend, Jackie, got pulled over for having her phone in her hand while using it to navigate while driving to a new location. The officer did not want to hear her excuse that she did not know the law. He issued her a $100 fine or come to court to fight it. She is paying the fine.
As a young working mother, my car was my life. I had snacks, clothing, shoes, wipes, and a first aid kit in the car. i drove my kids everywhere. In fact, my biggest distraction while driving was the children strapped into the back, especially the one I could not see in the rearview mirror. I got one of those huge rearview mirrors to see my children while driving.
These days, I am most distracted by using my phone or eating a fast food sandwich — I will buy one of those car phone holders now.
