Dear Paris,

My spouse and I were analyzing whether we wanted to go to Paris or Panama for our big vacation in 2024. Paris has the 2024 Summer Olympics, and Panama has the Panama Canal. Both the 2024 Olympics and the Panama Canal are on our lists of things we want to see before we leave Earth.

Unfortunately, because we are retired, we only take one vacation per year, so we need to pick.

We went to the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and had a wonderful time. We have also been on a quest to see engineering marvels to get our nerd on. We have seen engineering excellence in America and abroad — Roman aqueducts, the Golden Gate Bridge, Hoover Dam, The Forbidden City, and many others. Outstanding engineering excites us.

Since we are the baffling combination of nerd engineers who enjoy life, we use spreadsheets to compare transportation costs, housing, and entertainment factors. It was running neck and neck.
