What the Republicans are doing is weird
I don’t know how to describe how it makes me feel when Republicans claim Vice-President Kamala Harris is a DEI hire or that she slept her way to the top. The anger that brews behind my eyeballs is intense.
In my corporate career, I was called out as being a “diversity hire” even when I was obviously the most qualified person for the job. This happened multiple times by various white men and women throughout my entire job experience. Some people could not accept the reality of a person of color being the best person for the job.
I had people try to embarrass me when I had already checked whatever box they believed I had not checked or had some qualification for the job they suspected I did not have.
I once attended a Harvard Business School leadership seminar, where the host attempted to demean me by having everyone state their current business operating budget.
We turned in our profiles, and it appeared I had the smallest business because I wrote my business budget as 650. The gentleman called me out as a diversity hire for having the smallest business — and not meeting the requirements.
