Still Fly After All This Time

A surprising night out in Washington, DC

We were out with friends in Washington, DC, to see the cherry tree blooms. They came in from St Louis. We flew in from Austin, Texas, for a four-day mini-vacation to enjoy the trees and catch up. We missed the peak, but arrived in town right after that, so there were still some outstanding displays of trees in full bloom.

The trees were so beautiful that they had us glowing being around such beauty. The vibrant color made me feel thrilled to be alive. The cherry trees planted around the city are of different varieties. In Washington, D.C., cherry blossoms typically bloom in late March and extend into early April.

I found a place near the capital where artists were performing live book and poetry readings. Then I convinced my spouse and friends that we should dress up and go there.

Since it was a live reading, I felt bohemian and wore my small hat cocked to the side, allowing my big, curly hair to do whatever it wanted. I opted for minimal makeup because I’m older and wanted to look natural. My thigh-high boots, a black calf-length skirt with a high side slit, and a fuzzy red sweater…
