The Medium Writers Contest taught me that if you don’t have whatever it is that “they” are looking for, you cannot win.
Below are my four inputs for the Medium Writers Contest. I remember how much time and energy I put into writing the four submitted articles: checking and rechecking my formatting, spelling, images, and structure — stressing over every little thing. Silly me. None of that mattered in the end. It does not matter what you do or how much time you spend. You cannot win if you don’t write what the contest readers want to read. Know your audience — your readers — and write as passionately, authentically, and transparently as you dare about your life and the things you care about. That is how I became more successful on Medium. No secrets or magic bullets here. Just the best I can do consistently.
