Well-written article … that I strongly disagree with. You make your points well. It is a matter of perspective. Those of us who were the Black firsts (or tokens for so many things White) made painful, sometimes humiliating decisions so that others could succeed after us. The loud angry criticism from those benefitting from our sacrifices is disconcerting after we leave having cut a pathway through a virgin monster-filled jungle. No, we didn’t confront every ‘monster’ but we killed enough so that the next person could take on the rest. Our spirits, bodies, and minds paid steep prices for the compromises. The next Black whatever (number 2, number 3, etc.) will not kill/address all the issues either. It will be interesting to see how the generations after you see YOUR work. I wish you success in all your endeavors.
